Whilst listening to TMSofa, they continually bring up a betting website called cricket bet live, this is a unique betting site as it is the only cricket betting site in the world, they deal exclusively in Cricket and Cricket only.
Now as I listen the guys seem to mention that they always bet with this site because a) CBL is a sponsor of TMSofa, and b) CBL have a very low opinion on English cricketers so always give good odds.
The way they work is simple, they pick the next few things that are available and give a line on it, so if England are batting, they will give odds on, when the next wicket will fall, what score each of the batsmen at the crease will get before they are dismissed and what the total for that innings will be, with me so far?
But instead of letting you suggest what the scores will be, they pick whats called a ‘line’, a line is the number they think is a good benchmark to bet over or under, for instance, say Strauss is batting, they will set a target what they believe is reasonable and give odds on that, the odds over or under are the same (usually 1.9, I’ll come back to fraction odds in a minute) so you have to decide if you think he will get more, or less than the line they set.
The odds are done in fractions, it’s very simple to work out, I said before the over/under is usually 1.9, the simplest way to work it out is, when you place the bet, that money is gone, if you win, for every £1 you put on, you win £1.90, so instead of the whole, do I get my stake back? What does 100/30 mean? This is much simpler.
If you have understood all of that then I will continue with my story, if you haven’t grasped it, don’t worry, it will start to make sense soon.
2nd Test – Day 1 – Opening balance – £50.00
My rules are simple. £10 bets on innings totals, £5 bets on individuals.
4 bets placed:
- 00:01 2nd Test – Australia Runs (1st Innings) (3-Dec-2010) – Australia vs England Under 399.5 £10.00 @ 2.70
- 00:01 2nd Test – S.Katich Runs (1st Innings) (3-Dec-2010) – Australia vs England Over 40.5 £5.00 @ 1.90
- 01:17 2nd Test – Fall of 4th Wicket Australia ( 1st Innings) (3-Dec-2010) – Australia vs England Under 90.5 £5.00 @ 1.90
- 02:54 2nd Test – M.North Runs ( 1st Innings) (3-Dec-2010) – Australia vs England Under 31.5 £5.00@ 1.90
So, just to make it clear, reading across the bet – The time, which test, bet chosen, date, match being played, the line, the stake and the odds.
I have copied and pasted the actual bets from the website and the results are as follows:
- Bet won, up £27.00
- Bet lost (emphatically!) down £5.00
- Bet lost, down £5.00
- Bet won, up £8.50
2nd Test – Day 1 – Closing balance – £62.50
Tonight England resume on 1/0 and I think that the wicket will play like it should have yesterday, flat and lifeless, so my tips for the night are:
- Over Strauss’ line, currently 40.5
- Over Cook’s line, currently 37.5 (top bet – get your money on this)
- Over 1st wicket falling, currently 41.5
If you haven’t guessed I am very confident of England making it to lunch without dropping a wicket, if that happens I will be quids in, I will keep you posted of the ups and downs of this £50 throughout the whole series.
